LG washer OE error: what it means and how to fix it
Updated October 25, 2026
OE is LG's drain error: the washer tried to drain and the water didn't leave in time.
Safety first: unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before you open panels, and shut off gas or water if you'll be near those lines.
1. Turn it off and unplug it
Before you open anything, turn the washer off and unplug it. Have towels and a shallow pan ready, because water will come out.
2. Check the drain hose
Follow the hose from the back of the washer to the drain. It shouldn't be kinked, crushed behind the washer, or pushed too far down the standpipe.
3. Clean the drain pump filter (front-load models)
Open the small panel at the bottom front. Drain the water through the short emergency hose into the pan, then unscrew the filter slowly and remove lint, coins and hair ties. Screw it back in firmly.
4. Run Rinse and Spin
Plug the washer back in and run Rinse and Spin with no clothes. If it drains and spins, you're done.
5. Listen to the pump
If OE comes back and you hear a hum but no water moving, the pump may be blocked or failing. If you hear nothing at all, it could be the pump or its wiring.
When to call a technician
Call us if OE keeps coming back after a clean filter and a clear hose, or if water leaks from under the washer.
